Roofing and Energy Designed Together

A Streamlined Alternative to Rack-Mounted Solar

The Ironwood e-Panel is a photovoltaic roof shingle engineered by RARE Manufacturing to work with the Ironwood Shake metal roofing profile.

Instead of positioning a separate framed solar array above the roof, black solar modules are coordinated with the surrounding Ironwood Shake panels. This creates a lower-profile and more unified appearance.

High-efficiency monocrystalline silicon cells capture sunlight and generate renewable electricity. Electrical connections are enclosed beneath the roofing panels, helping protect important components from rain, snow, wind and other exterior conditions.

  • Compatible with new Ironwood Shake roof installations
  • May be considered for a qualifying existing Ironwood Shake system
  • Interlocking construction with concealed fasteners
  • Part of RARE’s permanent metal roofing product line

Homeowner Questions

Ironwood e-Panel FAQ

Is e-Panel a conventional solar array mounted above the roof?

No. It is an integrated photovoltaic roofing shingle designed to work with Ironwood Shake, providing a lower-profile alternative to a conventional rack-mounted system.

Can e-Panels be added to an existing roof?

The manufacturer states that e-Panels can work with new or existing Ironwood Shake roofs. The existing system must be inspected to confirm its condition and compatibility.

What roof slope is required?

The published minimum is 3:12. Roof orientation, shading, structure, drainage and applicable local requirements must also be reviewed.

How much electricity will the system produce?

Production depends on array size, roof orientation, pitch, shading, local conditions and electrical design. A property-specific assessment is required.

Are the electrical connections exposed?

The system is designed with electrical connections enclosed beneath the roofing panels, helping protect them from exterior weather.

Who should install the system?

The complete system should be reviewed and installed by qualified roofing and electrical professionals following manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements.
